Bounce Records is the brainchild of Dean Godward aka 'Cuba' and was initially set up as a vehicle for the release of his own music. Dean’s music career has spanned 4 decades. He cut his teeth drumming in house band residencies at the Auckland nightclub 'Your Father's Moustache' and then at resorts Brampton Island and Daydream Island on the Great Barrier Reef followed by stints in the Townsville bands 'The Papers' and 'The Tony Tapp big band' before hitting the big smoke of Sydney. Dean would spend a number of years playing drums in the underground alternative music scene in bands that included 'True Penguins' and 'Fandango'. Eventually, Dean made the move back to his home country NZ and continued with his passion for playing drums for groups such as Shayne Carter's 'Dimmer', 'The Calero Drive', 'Voodoo Moon' and playing congos & percussion over some of the countries best club DJ's all the while developing his skills in studios as a producer/engineer for groups such as 'Lushburger', 'Pet Rocks', 'Celine' and 'Drill'. This then led to the creation of his own recording studio in Ponsonby. It was here that he collaborated with Issac Tucker on their drum & bass album 'Trans Pacific Express' as Cuba & Gizmo. This led to co-producing and engineering the award-winning album 'Savage Thoughts' for Hip Hop icon King Kapisi. With the success of 'Savage Thoughts' the still-at-High-School Hip Hop group 'Nesian Mystik' approached Dean with a demo leading to their signing to Bounce Records. Coupled with Dean's recording skills, this partnership became an explosive success story in New Zealand music, achieving 3 top-ten albums and 13 top-ten singles. Dean's next creation was his own studio album 'Del Rey System' featuring some of NZ’s top artists and was awarded the 'Tui' (NZ Music Award) for Best Electronica Music.
